    MA, LMFT 34983

Jennifer Newbold is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and has been with PathPoint since 1986. As Executive Director, she oversees PathPoint’s Behavioral Health Division services, including all Marriage and Family Therapist Interns (MFTI). Jennifer received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University in Santa Barbara. During her tenure at PathPoint, she has lent her leadership and clinical expertise to a variety of programs including more recently, Residential Support Services, the Life Skills Center, Paths to Recovery, and finally the Counseling Center which opened in fall 2015.

Jennifer is deeply committed to helping those who have found themselves marginalized by society, whether it is due to mental illness, life circumstance, or sexual orientation. Jennifer and her team adhere to two philosophies. The first is hope - recovery is possible. You can have the life you want. The second is empowerment. You, the client, are in control of your life. You are meaningful and important. Every person should be respected and valued for what they have to offer. She believes in focusing on all aspects of meaning instead of segmenting them. The absence of one characteristic does not mean a life is empty. Everyone has the ability to live a whole life, even if awaiting fulfillment.

Lauren Hawksworth has over thirty years of experience in the mental health field. As a Marriage and Family Therapist Lauren truly believes in the therapeutic power to influence change in a person’s life. Her primary emphasis in treatment is to encourage self-nurturance and self-care on the part of the client. With that goal in mind, she encourages her clients to seek out activities and relationships that are rewarding to them. Emphasis on the positive is key, as are recognition and appreciation. Her experiences with the disabled and with children has taught her to see beyond the conscious verbal level and incorporate creative approaches. Lauren is trained in and uses EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), an evidenced-based method proven to help individuals with PTSD, anxiety, depression and other mental illnesses.

Her background includes working with developmentally disabled children at St. Vincent’s and Seton School both as a psychotherapist and a residential instructor. She furthered her experience doing therapy with children while employed as a home school liaison in the City of Santa Barbara’s elementary schools. Later her experience with families and children was broadened through an internship as a bilingual therapist for the Isla Vista Youth Projects. She has provided services in licensed residential programs including Devereux, where she directly impacted those with individuals with developmental disabilities.
